June 4th — Speak Up: Columbus Community Pride Spoken Word (FB Event)
This is the FIRST Community Pride event we have lined up for y’all, so come on out and let’s start this thing right!
We have an exciting line up of primarily LGBTQIA+ people of color sharing their talents on the mic, live art, as well as a discussion led by some of the artists about their work!
Accessibility details :
There will be one wheelchair accessible bathroom with grab bars but is not technically ADA compliant. There is wheelchair parking in the side lot next to the building. The wheelchair accessible entrance is on the east side of the building near the side lot. There will be gender neutral bathrooms throughout the building. The event will be low scent to help with any sensory needs. Please refrain from wearing perfumes, hair care products, oils, lotions and colognes with heavy scents to assist in those needs. ASL interpretation will be provided.
June 7th — Bash Back! Queer Club Night (FB Event)
This is the SECOND Community Pride event!
Remember how lit our kickoff club night The Get Down was last year? Well, it’s time for us to do it all over again. Turn up with your friends at Bash Back! We’ll have DJ Honey Brown and another special guest providing the tunes all night long.

June 11th — Free CeCe! Screening + Panel Discussion (FB Event)
This is the THIRD Community Pride event!
We will host a free screening of the documentary “Free CeCe!”, followed by a panel discussion that will highlight transmisogynoir and it’s daily violence against Black trans women, as well as the systemic dehumanization and criminalization of Black trans people.
When Black trans women are under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back!

Documentary description from trailer: “On her way to the store with a group of friends, Chrishaun Reed ‘CeCe’ McDonald was attacked. In fighting for her own life, a man was killed. After a coercive interrogation, CeCe was incarcerated in a men’s prison in Minnesota. An international campaign to free CeCe garnered significant support from media and activists, including actress and executive producer Laverne Cox. Laverne uses her platform to explore the roles race, class, and gender played in CeCe’s case. CeCe emerges not only as a survivor, but as a leader. Documentarian Jac Gares pushes past everyday narratives of victimhood that surround the lives of trans people, to foreground the way CeCe and other trans people are leading a growing movement to critically interrogate and disassemble the prison industrial complex.”
Event accessibility details: The main entryway does not have steps and is wheelchair accessible. As you enter the building the doors on the right-hand side have automatic doors operated by a push button. Restrooms are located on all three floors of the Canzani Center. Restrooms are located on all three floors of the Canzani Center. Each restroom has a wheelchair accessible stall. CCAD is accessible by bus. The closest stop is located at E Long & Cleveland. There is also a stop at E Broad & N Washington in front of the Museum of Art that is nearby. There are designated parking spots for wheelchair users, though they are closer to the church than CCAD. CCAD’s security team will set up two temporary spots for this event in the front row of parking in the lot adjacent to Canzani, close to the main entrance. We are requesting that this be a low-scent event. Please refrain from wearing perfumes or scented haircare products/deodorant/lotions/etc.
June 13 — Skate Against State Violence (FB Event)
This is the FOURTH Community Pride event and the last one before the Community Pride Festival!
This event is 18+!
We are partnering with Skate Zone 71 on their Pride Skating Party to bring you Skate Against State Violence! Come through with your cutest looks and show us what you got on the floor! We plan on having an area in the rink dedicated to letter-writing to incarcerated trans folks, as well as collecting donations for the Marsha P. Johnson Institute.
This event is regrettably the only one of ours that is not free — folks will have to pay for admission and skate rental (if you don’t own your own pair). But a portion of the proceeds will go back into Community Pride, so your attendance will help sustain us as we build this grassroots Pride celebration. If you are unable to pay, please DM us or email us at columbuscommunitypride@gmail.com so we can make note of your name and we will cover your entry. We don’t want anyone to be turned away for lack of funds!
Access details: Skate Zone is on the bus line off Morse Rd. The distance down Evanswood is a little over a 1/4 mile. There is parking available for Skate Zone 71 attehdees. There are no steps to get in the building and front door access is compatible for wheel chairs. Restrooms will be temporarily labeled as gender-neutral. Restrooms are not considered ADA-compliant, but there are wider stalls available. If you need accommodations to use the restroom, please let one of the event organizers know. As long as the skating floor does not become too busy, folks in wheelchairs can be out on the floor. For adult skate, there are typically skaters at a higher level of experience, so it will be at the floor guards discretion if they believe people in wheelchairs are not safe with the current skaters on the floor.
June 15th — Columbus Community Pride 2019: Decades of Resistance Festival (FB Event)
Black Queer & Intersectional Collective and its partners are organizing a 2nd annual Community Pride celebration which centers QTIPOC and those at other intersections of oppression, takes no corporate sponsorship, and outrightly fights against state-sanctioned violence.
Celebrating our Revolutionary History on the 50 Year Anniversary of The Stonewall Uprising. There’s nothing we want more than to commemorate THE TRUE history of our roots with you, our community.
We can’t wait to centralize Black and Brown queer, trans/GNC, and intersex voices, talents, and vendors who have dedicated their lives to resisting Rainbow Capitalism, and fighting for true Liberation for all of us.
Come join us and be apart of what the Stonewall Uprising was REALLY about:
Freedom from the Police State and the overreaching, menacing alliance between Corporations, The State, and the violent-exclusionary cis white gay-geoisie.
